Silicon Carbide
SILICON CARBIDE
Silicon carbide (SiC), also known as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon with chemical formula SiC. It occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite. There are two types of silicon carbide on the market. Green silicon carbide is very hard abrasive and very fragile. Its hardness is approximately 9.5 according to Mohs Scale. It is sensitive to impacts. It is used for primarily hard metals and materials such as ceramics, glass and acid-resistant austenitic steels. Black silicon carbide is very hard, but less fragile than green silicon carbide. Its hardness is approximately 9.5 according to Mohs Scale. Silicon carbide is used in the processing of low tensile strength metallic and non-metallic materials, cast iron, spheroidal graphite cast, cold cast iron, brass, bronze, aluminum, organic minerals and ceramic materials. Silicon carbide-based materials have an important place at refractories used in cooking ovens with features of high mechanical strength, oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. Silicon carbide-based materials are used at ballistic armor plates, abrasion resistant nozzle, cast filter, casting pot and ceramic oven materials. You can find every information you need to know about silicon carbide for sandblasting at our company, Saykar Metallurgy!!!

Silicon Carbide is not a radioactive mineral.
Silicon Carbide contains trace amount of heavy metals.
Silicon Carbide keeps moisture, therefore should be stored in a dry place.
Silicon Carbide does not contain toxic and cancerogenic substances.
Silicon Carbide does not contain free silica, however the dust from sandblasting should not be inhaled.
Silicon Carbide improves high energy transfer to the surface, ensures high resistance against breakage with low dust generation.
Silicon Carbide with high specific gravity (3.20), ensures dirt and coating removal easily by high energy of the particles hitting the surface.
Silicon Carbide is consists of angular particles and makes a rapid cleaning on every type of material surface.
Silicon Carbide may have a corrosive effect on material surfaces. Therefore, after application, coating such as paint should be applied.
